MARYLOU OZBOLT-STORER

ARTIST STATEMENT

Marylou Ozbolt-StorerA native of Washington State, I was born into a family just one generation from the old country. My father's Yugoslavian heritage engendered rich family values and a strong work affect. My Mother's British culture greatly exposed me to colour, working in a family florist shop at a very early age. Both parents instilled in me the importance of goals and encouraged me to follow my dreams.

After getting my university education in the United States, I attended a school in London, England for "Fashion and Textile Design". It was there that I was first introduced to pattern making and challenged in my every creative process.

My contemporary outerwear; extensively pieced, appliquéd and embellished, adorned with imported European braids, vintage buttons, and treasures garnered from around the world is probably what I am best known for. Each item is individually cut and manipulated. A very limited number are created through out the year. I specialize in 100% Merino Wool, but often play with other fabulous fabrics such as silks, linens, and vintage cloth, manipulating the fabrics until I get the colour balance and/or emphasis I am after. I am most excited when dealing with a variety of layers and textures.

I have a fetish of using only the very best fabrics, creating a piece that fits and drapes well, and inspires a story. My goal is to create "Wearable Art" that is an extension of my experiences, and complements the wearer in both design and silhouette.
